Arizona Javelina

JESSICA YOUNG
Santa Rita Mountains
Tucson, Arizona
My February javelina hunt was definitely an exciting one. The previous year we went out and hadn't seen any pigs, so this time I was determined to find something. There were a few other hunters who creeped up on us pretty early and got a few shots off a herd we were stalking, scattering all the pigs. My brother Mike and I topped over a ridge while my dad tool the long way around the side of the canyon, trying to hesitant since the wind was not in our favor. Not ten minutes after settling in we glassed one pig headed sideways on the ridge in front of us. We got sticks set up but for some reason couldn't get it right and I couldn't get him in my scope. The pig ended up topping the ridge and I was pretty upset that I let my chance go. But he came back! My brother yelled to just forget the sticks since the pig was only about 120 yard away so I threw the gun up and shot. First shot I hit him in the jaw and ticked him off prety good but I was able to drop him with a head shot. This is my first kill so it was a very special hunt to me!

CHRISTY RAMSAY - TEXAS DOLL SHEEP
Standing in the middle of a field in Texas and eighty yards away form the biggest Texas Doll Sheep I had ever seen. As I set there debating on what to do I knew I had to get closer, and there was only one way to do that. So I got down on my hands and knees and crawled as fast and as queitly as I dared to. Finally I reached the bush I had ranged at 30 yards in front of me. As I sat behind the bush I pulled my glasses up to see the sheep. There was three sheep and the one I wanted was at 47 yards away. I got a hold of my bow, clipped my release, got on my knees, took a deep breath, drew my bow "center your level, 50 yard pin a little low, and squeeze." THWACK! Then as the sheep started to move I looked at my boyfriend Bronc who had his bow drawn back and I watched as he to released and shot another Doll Sheep. Two down and now the only question is what to hunt next!

KRISTA STAHELI - ELK 2010
We hunted for 7 days, before I got my bull and each day was different. One day all we saw was cows, hundreds of them! Other days it was a complete blizzard (about 9 degrees). Scary at moments when we couldn't see the road, just knowing that there was a huge cliff on either side of us. My brother was with me the whole time, being my guide. The first 2 days there was 9 guys hunting with me, including a camera crew...I had no idea they would be there, it made me nervous. The day I shot my elk, we hiked a few miles to try and sneek up on him. He jumped up about 50 yards in front of us, an ran like crazy. He stopped right in an opening inbetween some pines about 350 yards away & I took my first shot. I hit him in the hind leg and he slowed down alot. We couldn't see him for a minute, but we could hear himtrying to make his way up the mountain through the pines. Then he stopped at the only opening and looked back at me.I shot one last time at 500 yards, and dropped him. The hill that we had to walk up and down was so steep. I just sat down & slid down the mountain. I was quite a hike, we were all spent but it was very exciting and such a rush! The was my first kill and my heart was racing the whole time. I get excited when I think about that hunt -Krysta Staheli

My First Bow Hunt
When I first decided to hunt I thought all there was to it was a few practice shots and throw on some camo and you're ready to go! I couldn't have been more wrong. TnT Archery sized me up for my first bow, a Hoyt. I spent endless hours getting help, tips, practicing shooting. After days of practice I was grouping arrows and feeling like a pro, but then came the hunt.
My first day out I concealed myself behind a bush on a beaten path to a watering hold. After nearly two hours I heard something behind me. I had no idea what it was and couldn't see so I slowly stood and turned around. Behold I was staring into the big brow eyes of a small buck. I was so close to him I could count his individual eyelashes! I screamed, he snorted, and we both jolted in opposite directions. The first thing I learned that day was to sit and not move no matter what happens. The second thing: camo and scent products REALLY DO WORK!
The next ten days of the hunt were an emotional roller coaster ride. I even found myself crying at times exclaiming that I was not cut out for this type of thing. I would get made after missing a shot and come up with every excuse possible for why I missed. I even told my husband that I was through and we should just sell the bow. He laughed and said, "What ya going to do, throw rocks at them? You'll be back tomorrow because it's already in your blood." This was not what I wanted to hear.
After a few more nights of tips, advice, frustration, and exhaustion I sat hidden when I looked up and saw a 3 point walking right into pins-eye about 25 yards away. Surprisingly I wasn't shaking and breaking down already from the emotions so I drew the bow, waited for the buck to pause, took a deep breath and released. The shot felt perfect. There was no doubt I connected. I started jumping up and down and then began the shaking and stuttering. After I had calmed down I found the buck laying about 100 yards away with the arrow placed perfectly through both lungs.
Not every hunt was as exciting or intense as my first but there is something about the way it makes me feel that keeps me coming back. I have learned patience, respect for nature, and how to stop panic attacks by controlling my breathing! Every year now I look forward to nature's lessons and the adrenaline rush!

Women, Hunters
Deer Fairy Outfits is not just a hunting apparel company. This business is about bringing the spirit of the huntress out from within you. The realm of hunting has always been and still is dominated by males. This is the reason Deer Fairy Outfits has made its primary purpose to serve the women of the hunt with customized apparel and body products.
The idea that the men hunt and the women gather is an ancient tradition derived from women being naturally smaller in physical stature. This meant they were considered the keepers of the home while the taller, stronger, men hunted. As our culture and technology has developed over the past century women have become much more involved in the act of hunting.
There is something special about the woman hunter. Women have a natural emotional sensitivity and therefore the raw feeling of becoming a predator is often sensed better by a woman, along with all the other emotions of the hunt. Hunting, for women, still begins with a stalk and ends with a story, but the story that comes from a woman, believe it or not, is deeper and more primal than that of a man.
This business is about serving the huntress. Deer Fairy Outfits was created to combat the popular thought pattern which says the women are less suited for hunting. Like many popluar thought patters this one is simply false. If you are a huntress and have a story to tell then send it to deerfairy@hotmail.com, heart shot or not. We would be more than glad to make your story a part of this blog.
